Almíbar's First Activation: New York Meets San Juan at Barra Negra

Bartenders raising a toast behind the bar at Noche Traviesa, Barra Negra, Santurce

There is something fitting about almíbar choosing Puerto Rico as the place to begin. For founders Jucely and Samuel, the island is home. And on the night of Noche Traviesa, hosted by Barra Negra in the heart of Santurce, it felt like it.

The event brought together bartenders Michael Aredes of Deux Chats in Brooklyn, and Derek Champlin and Christine Coimbre of Aurora, also in Santurce, for a night of original cocktails, DJ sets, and the kind of energy that does not come from a production brief. Ketel One District Manager for Puerto Rico, Esteban Vazquez, joined as co-sponsor, and DJ Poli en los platos kept the floor moving from start to finish.

Guests danced. Shots were raised. Behind the bar, three bartenders from two cities worked in sync.

For Almíbar, the night was more than a debut. It was proof that the model works: give talented bartenders a platform, connect the right partners, and get out of the way. The room does the rest.

For the bartenders and collaborators involved, the experience was straightforward from the start. Fees were agreed upfront, and when the night ended, everyone got paid without having to chase anyone down. At Almíbar, that is the standard.

Noche Traviesa was the first activation of many. The next one could be yours, whether you are a bartender ready to take the stage, a brand looking to show up differently, or a venue that wants to give its space a night to remember.
